So it's Day 3 of the 50 day project! Today, I'm supposed to talk about my favorite movie. That is incredibly difficult, since I really like a lot of movies. If there was some kind of genre provided to narrow things down, that would be nice. But really, there's only one movie that I can think of that touches me every time I watch it.
That movie is The Fountain. The beauty of The Fountain is that it takes place in three different time periods. The first is during the early 18th century (I'm guessing. It might actually be the 17th century) when Spain was colonizing South America. Hugh Jackman plays Tomas, who is a conquistador. Rachel Weiss is Isabel, the Queen of Spain. [yeah, i had to IMDB the names] There's some sexy love relationship stuff going on there. Also, there's a crazy Inquisitor who wants to kill the Queen because she's a heathen. I don't know enough about Spanish history to have a clue if this was true. But anyway, Tomas is sent on a quest for the Fountain of Youth. The next time period is the present, in which Hugh/Tommy is a biologist who's working to find a cure for cancer and his wife is Rachel/Izzy who has cancer. SADNESS ENSUES. The third time period is in this weird afterlife type situation in which Hugh/Tommy is trying to reach Nirvana with the Tree of Life (who is actually Isabel/Izzy). Since I buy into the whole reincarnation circle of life deal, this movie appeals to me on several levels. I cried for the last half of the movie, and every time I watch it I cry. The characters are well developed and their relationships are realistic and convincing. I was heartbroken when Hugh Jackman's present time character was heartbroken. This is probably the only movie I've cried so hard over. Seriously. Not only is the story beautiful because it's about soul mates and true love, but the imagery of Hugh's character finding his way to Nirvana is breathtaking. Seriously guys, if you haven't seen this movie you need to.
Gorgeousssss.
<3 See you tomorrow!

BY FAR one of the best movies ever made, this film defines what love is to me. I still listen to the soundtrack all the damn time.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you. I wish it was easy to find love like that, though. *wistful sighhh* and i need to invest in the soundtrack now.
